The Honour of Prophet Muhammad pbuh

“So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O Muhammad] against these [people] as a witness?” (Qur’an 4: 41)

Ibn Mas’ud -may Allah be pleased with him- said, one day, the Prophet -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- told me, “Read the Qur’an for me.” So I told him, “O Messenger of Allah, I read the Qur’an for you, while it is revealed to you?”. He replied, “Indeed, I love to hear it being read by other than myself.” Then I read for him chapter The Women, until I reached the verse, (which can be translated as) “Consider, then, when We shall bring forward witnesses from every community, and will bring you, (O Muhammad), as a witness against them all.” (QS. an-Nisaa’ : 41).

Then he said, “Enough.” I turned to him and saw tears streamed down from his eyes.” (Narrated by Bukhari)

He was crying out of honour and dignity bestowed upon him as a witness. Because he was declared as the final successor of all prophets. The Prophet of each age will stand as a witness before God against his people; he will testify that he conveyed to them the true way of life, and showed them the right outlook and the fundamentals of moral conduct revealed to him by God. The testimony of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh will be to the same effect, and the Qur’an indicates that he will stand as a witness to the period beginning with his advent as a Prophet right through to the Day of Judgement.

▪ “The Prophet Muhammad pbuh will intervene for the Ummah ”

Bukhari : Narrated Anas:

The Prophet pbuh said, “On the Day of Resurrection the Believers will assemble and say, ‘Let us ask somebody to intercede for us with our Lord.’

So they will go to Adam pbuh and say, ‘You are the father of all the people, and Allah created you with His Own Hands, and ordered the angels to prostrate to you, and taught you the names of all things; so please intercede for us with your Lord, so that He may relieve us from this place of ours.’

Adam pbuh will say, ‘I am not fit for this (i.e. intercession for you).’ Then Adam will remember his sin and feel ashamed thereof. He will say, ‘Go to Noah, for he was the first Apostle, Allah sent to the inhabitants of the earth.’

They will go to him and Noah pbuh will say, ‘I am not fit for this undertaking.’ He will remember his appeal to his Lord to do what he had no knowledge of, then he will feel ashamed thereof and will say, ‘Go to the Khalil–r-Rahman (i.e. Abraham).’

They will go to him [Abraham pbuh] and he will say, ‘I am not fit for this undertaking. Go to Moses, the slave to whom Allah spoke (directly) and gave him the Torah .’

So they will go to him [Moses pbuh] and he will say, ‘I am not fit for this undertaking.’ and he will mention (his) killing a person who was not a killer, and so he will feel ashamed thereof before his Lord, and he will say, ‘Go to Jesus, Allah’s Slave, His Apostle and Allah’s Word and a Spirit coming from Him.

Jesus pbuh will say, ‘I am not fit for this undertaking, go to Muhammad pbuh the Slave of Allah whose past and future sins were forgiven by Allah.’

“It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqaam Mahmood (a station of praise and glory, i.e., the honour of intercession on the Day of Resurrection)”
[al-Isra’ 17:79]

’So they will come to me and I will say, I am fit for that.’ Then I will ask my Lord for permission and He will give me permission, and He will inspire me with words of praise with which I will praise Him, words that I do not know now. So I will praise Him with those words of praise and I will fall down prostrate before Him.

He will say, ‘O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’ I will say, ‘O Lord, my ummah, my ummah!’

He will say, ‘Go and bring forth everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a barley-grain.’ So I will go and do that. Then I will come back and praise Him with those words of praise and I will fall down prostrate before Him.

He will say, ‘O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’ I will say, ‘O Lord, my ummah, my ummah!’

He will say, ‘Go and bring forth everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a small ant or a mustard-seed.’ So I will go and do that.

He will say, ‘Go and bring forth from the Fire everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of the lightest, lightest grain of mustard-seed.’ So I will go and bring them forth.”

‘None remains in Hell but those whom the Quran has imprisoned (in Hell) and who have been destined to an eternal stay in Hell.’ (This shows that he is so deeply concerned about his Ummah)

(The compiler) Abu ‘Abdullah said: ‘But those whom the Qur’an has imprisoned in Hell,’ refers to the Statement of Allah: “They will dwell therein forever.” (16.29).

“Every Prophet has one supplication that is granted to him, and every Prophet hastened to make that supplication (in this world). But I have postponed my supplication in order to intercede for my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.” Prophet Muhammad pbuh”.

May Allah send His blessings and peace to our beloved prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. Aameen
