It’s true that most of us have unconditional affections for our children, have great care and concern for our parents, true love for our spouse more than any other in this world, which involves sparing our precious time, energy and money for them and striving to make their lives better, want to see them prosperous in this world. This is a natural feeling some have less while some have more. Even though Prophets and Messenger are not exempted from this as all human being are born with emotions and feelings. That’s the reason we come across many supplication of Prophets and Messenger which they humbly made for their children, parents and spouse.
As they were very apprehensive about their children. They not only tried to inculcate the islamic teaching in them but also constantly made dua for their guidance as their prime concern is the well-being of their offspring. As no one can guarntee guidance and salvation except the Almighty God. Even though they were Prophets but also turned to God for every problem. So we too can’t rely on our upbringing and education. Guidance is in the hand of our Lord. They had great vision not only for this world but also the world to come. The parent’s supplication against their child, and righteous children’s supplication for their parents is sure to be accepted (with the will of the almighty God) invoke God from the depth of our heart in our prayer.
We all know Prophet Muhammad pbuh Last Messenger of God are also from Prophet ibrahim’s pbuh lineage. How the chain of Messengers and Prophets has come to an end with the birth of Prophet Muhammad pbuh. Prophets Ibrahim pbub has left the legacy behind him. Thus, Supplication is the power and weapon of the believer. Every word of the Qur’an is like a precious pearl full of wisdom. Some verses are much adorable due to their meaning and are very close to our hearts. The following is the popular supplication made by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) pbuh for his parents and children.
“رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ. (14: 40/41)
“O my Lord! Make me one who performs prayers (Iqamat -as-Salat), and (also) from my offspring, our Lord! And accept my invocation.
“Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established.” (Quran : Surah Ibrahim: 40-41)
Prophet Ibrahim pbuh supplicated for himself and for his offspring to be on the path of success i.e prayer. If we leave a righteous children behind us then this will be our on going charity (Sadqa-e-Jaria). Prophet Ibrahim pbuh asked the Almight God to forgive him, his parents and the whole Ummah and to save all of us on the day of judgement. What a beautiful vision he had ..!
If we make dua for material things it will eventually perish anyhow but spiritual supplication keeps on going from one generation to the next generation. Every Prophets had enjoined their children to establish Salah and steadfastness on Deen, and made supplication all the time the way Prophet Ibrahim pbub did. This is Prophet’s Sunnah (way), we too have to follow the same path, that’s the best gift we can give to our beloved one.
