When we study the history of Islam or life of the Muhammad pbuh, we come to know that over a span of 13 years, hardly 125 people accepted islam. They were called companions (sahaba). These Shabaha were well trained and it was Prophet’s duty to make them believe in such a way so that they can take up the responsibility of Islam and convey the true message of islam to others in a way, the prophet taught them.
“It is He who has sent among the unlettered an apostle from among themselves, to rehearse to them His signs to sanctify them and to instruct them in scripture and wisdom although they had been before in manifest error.” (Qur’an 62: 2)
Prophet Muhammad pbuh gathered his followers through his unconditional love for the people only for the sake of Allah. He had high moral ethics even his enemy used to say “O Muhammad we believe in you”. he retained his titles of Al-Amin and Al-Saddique means Trustworthy and Truthful person even after his prophethood.
Khadija RA (Prophet Muhammed’s wife) the first person embraced Islam and believed in the message of Allah. This was a great witness. A wife shares a very close and intimate relationship with her husband. Hence, her declaration id clear and strong evidence. Khadija RA acknowledged Muhammad pbuh as a messenger of Allah. Then, Ali RA was 12 years and Zaid ibn Haris RA his slave accepted Islam. It is a fact that a slave could be honest and royal but to believe his owner as a Prophet would be something big deal. When Zaid’s RA own father and Uncle came to take him. Then Zaid RA prefered slavery over freedom for the sake of Prophet pbuh. Then Prophet Muhammad pbuh said, “If anyone wants to departs from me i will let him go, but if anyone wants to stay with me so i am not such a person to leave him”. His father and uncle said we agreed with your opinion. They left leaving their own son to Prophets Muhammad pbuh. This is the love of the Prophet pbuh which attracted Zaid RA to stay with him, then Prophet pbuh publicly announced that he had adopted Zaid RA as his son.
Three family members of the Holy Prophet, namely Khadija RA, Ali RA and Zaid ibn Harith RA had accepted Islam. Then His best friend Abu baker RA believed in his message. Years later, the Holy Prophet recalled the conversion of Abu Bakr and said, “Whenever I offered Islam to anyone, he always showed some reluctance and hesitation and tried to enter into an argument. Abu Bakr was the only person who accepted Islam without any reluctance or hesitation, and without any argument”. Abu Dharr al-Ghifari was fifth person to revert to Islam. Bilal ibn rabah RA was a slave but Prophet kindness and love drove him to Islam he became the first mouazzin (Prayer Caller).
So by mercy from Allah , [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them (Qur’an 3 :159)
Prophet Muhammad pbuh tried to convey the message of the Qur’an in the best possible manner to people despite of strong opposition and persecution. By the grace of Allah prophet Muhammad pbuh was very soft and kind hearted person, won the heart of people those who loved him and his character, acknowledged him as Prophet this true relationship with people gathered many followers. Quran stated his true feeling for their people.
Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow.(Qur’an18 : 6 )
This refers to the real cause of the anxiety of the Prophet pbuh at the time of the revelation of this Surah. It clearly shows that the Prophet pbuh did not grieve at the persecution from which he and his companions were suffering but at the deviation and moral degeneration of his people. Prophet pbuh’s true love and compassion for humanity succeeded the mission of Allah. At hajjatul wida (the farewell Pilgrimage’s) approximately one year before prophet’s death. There were 1,24,000 people gathered for Haj. The vast gathering of people had never before this event.
We should be practical Muslim who are pure and steadfast as well as applying the God’s ordinance in their day to day lives. Prophet said : “Strong believer is better and more beloved to Allaah than the weak” . (Ahmad)
May Allah enable us to follow the path of our beloved Prophet pbuh . Aameen
