Man in the Qur’an

“And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; And mankind was created weak”. (Qur’an 4 : 28)

Unlike other species human being have a fragile nature requiring a lot of care to survive from day one. The human infant is a helpless creature at birth. He is virtually immobile, he cannot hold to his mother, walk, or speak, and is greatly limited in his ability to act with purpose. He needs constant care and supervision. The scientific research shows that seventy – five per cent of his brain develops after birth. It’s impossible for him to survive on his own. He cannot continue to live without the efforts of another human. He requires years of development before he can care for himself. A baby’s helplessness and immature development requires a source of care. Nature has provided a source to match this need – the human mother.

That’s why Islam has given a high rank to Mother as she look after Allahs beautiful gift and nuture him to the best of her ability. Now the second point, Can man live without food, water, oxegyn, and other essential natural resources ? The answer would be No ! As man is so weak and very sensitive, can’t bear hunger pangs and thirst more than a few hours. Even a microbe can knock him down. His heart beat can stop anytime. A natural disaster can terrify him anytime leaving him shattered. Even he is uncertain about his life and illness. These are the reminder from his lord that man is the servant of Allah. As he has no influence and power on anything. That’s the reason Allah says that He wants to lighten our difficulties by sending the guidance.

Since man is made up of two parts physical body and spiritual body/soul. More often our material desire can overpowere us in many ways so proper guidance can save us from going astray and leading to the corrupt society and the destruction of humanity. As his wishes are endless. He is weak and can’t control his vain desires, passions and emotions due to lacking firmness. Thus, Allah has designed the law as per his nature to suit his all natural instinct and emotions. Moreover, he can’t bear any burden beyond his capacity. That’s the reason he has to depend on the creator at every step of his life. As man grows older getting weak and has to depend on other. Why this ego and pride ? It’s very intresting point that the averages life of human being is between 60 – 65 and the word Insaan (man /انسان) is appeared 65 times in the Qur’an by reminding him about his inefficiency.

One of the is the key point of the Qur’an is that some of its verses are supposed to explain and help you understand other verses. The below verse explains why man needs reminder.

“And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination”. (Qur’an 20 : 125)

Because Adam pbuh had been created weak by nature so he didn’t intentionally violate the covenant. Man forgets due to his nature and lack of determination. The disobedience was not due to any wrong and rebellion intentions. The fact is that human being easily forgot, the Nissyan (forgetfulness) was overtaken, because of which they did not remember the covenant of God in a timely manner. Nissyan is actually a natural weakness in human being, inserted by Allah purposefully so man can use it as a hint to accept that soneone superior to man is here in oower and control who has set this limtation.

This is Allahs mercy that he wisely and purposely created an imperfection for Adam pbuh to reflect upon it on independantly! Such is the extent if freedom and indepeance given to man. And to balance this trait out (forgtefulness) as to be considerable. Hence, Allah has taught us this great prayer when Allah’s most beloved, the Messenger of Allah pbuh, came to visit him on the Miraj (journey to the heavens), one of the two gifts Allah bestowed upon him was the five daily prayers. The other was the last two Ayaat of Surah al-Baqara. The below verse of Chapter Baqra :

“Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.” (Qur’an 2 : 286)

By which he promises to forgive also there is a hidden wisdom behind Allah giving us this prayer; which is that one will be easily concsious about the trait of human forgefulness, thus he will always seek to overcome or avoid forgetfulness, and become stronger. Now we know why Allah reminded us we are weak. Not to disgrace His own might nor make us feel low but out of wisdom for us to become determined instead to become stronger. Just like how a doctor points out your flaws not to humiliate you but so you be aware that you have to and that you can treat it. Undoubtedly, it’s the grace and bounties of Allah who has granted us the faculty of existence and observation with the best features of our face and body as well as given the intellect and wisdom to the human beings and appointed him a viceregent of the earth.

Let us pray to Allah All-forgiving to guide us to show our appreciations to Allah for all the bounties He has bestowed upon us by using them to earn His pleasure and not His wrath. Ameen !
