In the Qur’aan, God addresses the Christians about Jesus in the following way:
[“O People of the Book, do not commit excesses in your religion, and do not say anything about God except the truth: the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was nothing more than a messenger of God, His word, directed to Mary and a spirit from Him.
So believe in God and His Messengers and do not speak of a ‘Trinity’– stop [this], that is better for you– God is only ONE God,
He is far above having a son, everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him and He is the best one to trust”.]
(Quran Chapter 4; verse 171)
[Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah . He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.(19:30)
[Jesus said], “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”(19:36)
Prophet Jesus AS was a servant and messenger of God. The Quran discloses the reality in a most effective manner about Jesus pubh, those who wants to seek the truth. To know these important truths, you must continually ask God to enlighten the eyes of your heart.
“Upon hearing surah Maryam, An-Najashi king took a very little piece of plant from the ground and said, “Oh, priests and monks, almost there is no difference between what they say on Ibn Maryam and what we say!” Najashi stood up for Allah’s words and said: Certainly this and what Jesus had brought come out of one source. Further said “these verses give the same message which are found in the previous scriptures”.
The Quran speaks a lot more about Jesus AS regarding his birth, his mother’s detailed story their entire family tree, his ascent to the heaven, his fabrication of crucification, his return/descent upon the earth before the day of judgement. A detailed explanation of commandments sent down to Israeel by God are explained and mentioned in the Quran with perfect authenticity. The fact that Islam concludes that Jesus AS is the messenger of God just like any other messenger. Each prophet was assigned for a nation since Adam AS as guidance for mankind and a legislation from God that was to be abided on earth by man. Islam does not differentiate between any Prophets or religious scriptures. But insists that latest legislation sent by God should be followed and considered, also to believe in the last messenger just as the previous messengers. The same God sent prophet Muhammad pbuh, Jesus AS, Moses AS and the all the rest. There is no difference in their principle teachings. But because man, through time, manipulated, fabricated and invented what was not to be considered, each time God sent a new messenger and a newer legislation to be followed, considering all the mess caused by man in the basic pillars of faith.
Hence the Quran refutes about trinity and other many false claims and regards them as fabrications and lies invented by the previous generations in the history of time, to control and manipulate society, for their selfish needs, on the basis of religion. Thus using their beliefs to accomplish their desires, they distorted the ideas of belief in one true God, messengers and the scriptures, which created confusion for the latter generations. God says there will always be disbelievers, but they themselves will become a trial for the believers, so that their belief will be tested as to how strong it is, in spite of the falsehood made to seem reasonable. This very important point in this regard is this that neither Muhammad pbuh nor Jesus pbuh came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in One God, brought by earlier prophets, but to confirm and renew it. In the Quran, Jesus is reported as saying “And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Torah, and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you, and I have come to you with a proof from your Lord. So fear God and obey me”. (Quran 3: 50)
Now about Islam : The word “Islam” itself means “Submission to God.” The religion of Islam is neither named after a person as in the case of “Christianity” which was named after Jesus Christ, nor after a tribe like “Judaism” after the tribe of Judah and “Hinduism” after the Hindus. The Arabic word “Islam” means the submission or surrender of one’s will to the will of the only one God, worthy of worship, “Allah” known as God “the Father” (closer in meaning to Sustainer, Master, provider in Christianity ). That was the central message of all the prophet. Quran specified and clearly mentioned that Jesus AS was a servant and the messenger of God. Principle teaching of Islam is that “there is no God but Allah and the prophet Muhammad pbuh is the servant and the messenger of Allah”. Islam is a monotheism belief that is oneness of God. Quran is the sheer word of God revealed by the prophet Muhammad pubh. Islam is not a new religion because ‘submission to the will of God’, i.e. Islam, has always been the only acceptable religion in the sight of God.
Islam never refute the legitimacy of previous prophets and Muslims too believe that all of God’s prophets, which include Abraham, Noah, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad , brought the same message of Pure Monotheism. For this reason, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon all of them) was not the founder of a new religion, as many people mistakenly think, but he was the final Prophet of Islam. The only Islam is the most comprehensive and undistorted religion because prophet Muhammad pbuh was the last prophet, Muslims believe that Jesus will return before the day of Judgement to this world. Moreover, God himself guaranteed the Quran from deviation as it has been mentioned in Holy Quran: “Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian”(will save the Quran from distortion) (Quran 15 : 9)
Here Quran has mentioned Jesus’s pbuh true conviction and beautiful and humble supplication to his lord for his nation.
“I (Jesus pbuh) said not to them except what You commanded me – to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness.
If You should punish them – indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them – indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise”. (Quran 5: 117-118)
May God guide us all to the right path of life that will lead us to success and Paradise.
