“It is said by Caliph Ali RA that “If a particular hardship takes a soul away from God then it is a punishment. And if a particular hardship takes a soul towards God then it is a test”. This quote has clearly distinguished between test and punishment. Being a Muslim, we have firm faith that whatever happiness, sadness or hardship we face, it is all from God. Since we have a short vision, man just perceives the situation only superficially he doesn’t absorb the wisdom behind it, since we fail to visualise it so it just goes out of control in such difficulties. But if we remember the verse below then we will handle such situations patiently and will gain a better and great reward for our short trials and would be more thankful to Him.
The Quran states: “And We will test you with fear and hunger, and lost of wealth and life and plantations, and give glad tidings to those who are patient.” (Quran 2 :155)
Punishments are the consequences of our sins whereas test and trials wash away our sins getting us more closer to God. In times of troubles physical or financial, heaths, misfortunes we must repent more for our forgiveness. If these times of distress are driving us away from God instead getting us deviated from the straight path then be careful as a strict test awaits us. Test teaches us and tunes our present as well as prepares us for the better future with strong faith more determination. If we bear the circumstances with patience and perseverance keeping in mind that ‘nothing happens unless dictated by God and whatever happens in this world is as per the master plan of God.
Quran says .. “Say: “Nothing shall ever happen to us except what God has ordained for us. He is our Maula (Lord, Helper and Protector).” And in God let the believers put their trust.” (Surah At-Tawbah 9 and verse 51)
This belief and realization really helps us at every step of our life and comforts us that our present authority is in the Hands of the Supreme Almighty and our job is only to lead life as He has prescribed to us. We must sincerely strive hard with our faith not with the situation. The card is in our hand , either become winner or loser.
May God grant us the wisdom, foresight, and awareness to admit our wrongs and correct ourselves !
