“And certainly, We have granted you seven of the oft-repeated (Arabic: saba’an minal-mathani) and the magnificent Qur’an”.
(Qur’an 15: 87)
Surah Al-Fatihah the opening surah is considered as “ the greatest Surah” of the Qur’an. This is the reason it has many different name like Ummul-kitab, Saba-masani (The Seven Repetitions). It’s a complete supplication when slave asks for guidance ..the Merciful Lord revealed the whole quran as a guidance for mankind. Since we have been given the choice so humble ourselves before the lord to ask God to guide as well as give us strength to make right choice again and again in five times a day through our prayers to become success in both the world then obviously our covenant with Lord will be fulfilled In sha Allah. This is the theme of surah fatiha, which is considered to be the perfect embodiment of Islam.
Qur’an addresses mankind in many different ways, when Allah addresses Himself to mankind it begins as “I” (انا). While conversing with Prophet Muhammad pbuh that begins with “Say”(قل ) Teachings supplication to mankind then it starts with His glory for example “oh my lord” or “praise be to Allah” (ربنا ). Surah fatiha is one of them. It’s a complete dua and part of Salaah (prayers). Prayers are incomplete without Surah fatiha..Besides, Surah faitha consist the core belief of Islam that is Oneness of God, The hereafter, and The divine message of the Creator.
In Hadith Al-Qudsi Allah swt says: ” I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks.’
Here’s the conversation between your Sustainer and you every time you stand in front of Him reciting this beautiful surah:
You say: ( (الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينPraise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe.
Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me.
You say: الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ)) The Most Compassionate, the Merciful.
Allah the Most High says: My servant has extolled Me.
You say: (مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ) Master of the Day of judgement.
Allah the Most Exalted says: My servant has glorified Me. and sometimes He would say:My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me.
You say: (إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ) You alone do we worship and You alone we ask for help.
Allah Almighty says: This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.
Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to whom You have favored, not the path of those who earn Your anger nor the ones who go astray.
Allah the Most High says: This is for My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.
As Muslims we are blessed indeed..great opportunity to have a direct link with our Creator 5 times a day, where we stand in front Him and worship Him. When we are praying, we are speaking to Allah, and when we are reciting the Holy Quran, Allah is speaking with us. It’s a one to one conversation just between Allah and his slave. When we recite surah fatiha in Salaah keep in mind that we are having a sacred conversation between we and God who is the Lord of Worlds. It makes us feel closeness to Allah the One who is seventy times more Merciful to us than our own mother.
